What is Clinical Pilates?

Developed by physiotherapists based on the work of Joseph Pilates. Clinical Pilates incorporates smooth, controlled floor exercises as well as using specialised equipment. Research has found deep abdominal strength and muscle efficiency to be key factors in spinal function and athletic performance combined with breathing control. Clinical Pilates addresses these components. Pilates is ideal for improving overall well-being, injury rehabilitation and prevention, and is suited to augment gym or sports fitness programs, it takes time and commitment.

Our Pilates Studio

While we do mat classes, equipment based Pilates is done on a reformer and trap table predominantly. We are the only clinic in South Canterbury with a Equipment-based Studio. The added benefits of joining our Studio is that you don’t have crowded spaces! No need to worry about having others watching what you are doing.

Again this exercise is based on the work of Joseph Pilates. Predominantly working on the core stabilising muscles of the trunk, it incorporates smooth, controlled exercises. Our exercises combined with our breathing method ensures you are working at sub-maximal loading and maintaining control so that you are protecting and supporting the pelvic floor and other potential herniations. A stronger deep abdominal core means that you will have better muscle efficiencies and movements.
